A Pokemon God-Killer That Can Defeat Arceus
A war among mythical Pokemon Gods
Pokemon Legends: Arceus marks the next entry into the Pokemon games and is less than a year away from hitting the Nintendo Switch and, probably, the upcoming ‘Nintendo Switch Pro.’
The buzz around the upcoming release has new and old Pokemon fans putting Arceus in the spotlight once again.
Arceus and his creations
Fans of the series are not new to the literal God and mythical Pokemon— Arceus — that hatched from an egg that existed before the universe came into being.
As the lore goes, Arceus created the ‘Creation Trio’ — Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina, who commanded time, space, and anti-matter respectively. After Giratina was banished to the Distortion World for its destructive nature, Dialga and Palkia went on to create the universe that we see in the Pokemon World.
Later, Arceus went onto to create the three Legendary Pokemon — Uxie, Mespirit, and Azelf, collectively known as the Lake Guardians. They were responsible for giving knowledge, emotion, and willpower to all living things in the world. After the Pokemon World was created, Arceus went into hibernation— only to be awakened when he was needed.
The super-ancient trio
As the world started to evolve over time, extreme weather events gave rise to the super-ancient trio — Rayquaza, Groudon, and Kyogre.
Among the three, the Dragon-type Legendary Pokemon Rayquaza was the strongest. In fact, Rayquaza is so powerful that it successfully soothe a war between the Primal forms of Groudon and Kyogre.
Could Rayquaza defeat Arceus?
Rayquaza is outrageously powerful. It is also the only Pokemon capable of Mega Evolution without the Mega Stone or other special items. Now, why is that? Well, it literally devours meteorites while flying around in the ozone layer, and this gives it enough energy to Mega-Evolve at will.
On the other hand, when it comes to Arceus, officially, it is a Normal-type Legendary Pokemon that does not have a known Mega Evolution form. But Arceus has its Life Plates. This is where things get tricky. The Life Plates allow Arceus to change its type and have the upper hand in battle, primarily by evading attacks.
However, being the super-powerful Pokemon that Mega Rayquaza is, it is likely that it will do everything in its power to prevent the God Arceus from using the Plates. In fact, when it comes to brute stats, Mega Rayquaza is superior to Arceus with a base stat total of 780, while Arceus has 720.
There is also the fact that Arceus was nearly defeated by humans, which has not happened to Mega Rayquaza.
Arceus is a god with the power of creation, which technically implies it can create new Pokemon in its fight against Rayquaza. Still, it is unclear how long the creation process takes, and if Arceus can even continue a battle after creating a new Pokemon. It is also unknown if Arceus can control its creations.
That said, if Arceus were to fight Rayquaza, there is no doubt that it will be a battle of epic proportions; and if Rayquaza plays its moves right, it stands a chance to be a God-Killer who can obliterate Arceus.
